Kwame Alexander will receive the 2025 Anne V. Zarrow Award for Young Readers' Literature, speak about his life and works, and answer questions from the audience.
Alexander is a poet, educator, publisher, producer and New York Times bestselling author of more than 40 books for all ages, from picture books to nonfiction for adults. His children’s book The Crossover received accolades including the Newbery Medal and the Coretta Scott King Honor Award, and is now an Emmy Award-winning Disney+ series created in partnership with Alexander’s production company Big Sea Entertainment.
The Anne V. Zarrow Award for Young Readers’ Literature gives formal recognition, on behalf of the Tulsa County community, to a nationally acclaimed author who has made a significant contribution to the field of literature for young adults. The award, presented by the Tulsa Library Trust, consists of a $10,000 cash prize and an engraved crystal book.
After the author presentation, Alexander will present awards to winners of Tulsa City-County Library's 2025 Young People's Creative Writing Contest and then sign books. Copies of his books will be available for purchase, courtesy of Fulton Street Books.
