This discussion will be led by Wyvonne "Voni" Harris, a voracious reader of books about African Americans.
The story line: Born on a plantation but set apart from the others by her mother's position as a medicine woman, a young slave is forced to leave home at eighteen and unexpectedly finds herself in an infamously cruel jail.
A former public relations manager, Sadeqa Johnson spent several years working with well-known authors such as Bebe Moore Campbell, Amy Tan and Bishop T.D. Jakes before becoming an author herself. Johnson is now the award-winning novelist of four books. Her accolades include the National Book Club Award, the Phillis Wheatley Book Award and the USA Best Book Award for Best Fiction.
"Yellow Wife" is Johnson's most recent novel, was named by Oprah Magazine as "27 of 2021's Most Anticipated Winter Historical Fiction Books" and was a 2021 Goodreads Choice Award finalist for historical fiction.
