In this hands-on, creative writing workshop, students will learn to paint with words — transforming ordinary descriptions into vivid, emotionally charged scenes that pull readers right into the story.
Using the P.A.I.N.T. method, they’ll explore how location shapes mood, conflict and character choices while developing believable, well-rounded characters through sensory details, description and action.
Through guided activities and interactive discussion, students will practice showing instead of telling, craft descriptive paragraphs that bring settings and characters to life, and begin to see how these elements work together to build compelling stories. By the end of class, they’ll have a scene that feels alive — a true step toward releasing the novel in your writer!
Recommended for fifth-eighth graders.
